Microscopic Features

Spores irregular, typically with two or three lobes (6-9) x (4.5-7) x (6-8) µm decorated with coarse spines about 1 µm long. Basidia narrowly clavate to subcylindrical, sinuous. Hyphal system dimitic with branched skeletal hyphae. Cystidia absent.

Notes

The specimen shown was DNA sequenced by Eric Janke in association with the British Mycological Society. The results were consistent with some DNA sequences labelled as T. punicea, unfortunately many others were seen to be distributed over several clades, hence no firm conclusions could be drawn. This genus requires further work to better define the species concepts, including reference DNA sequences.
